Mourning Tobacco deaths in Mbale
Today, Uganda Health Communication Alliance joined the community of Mbale District to mourn tobacco related deaths. Together with the district leaders, the people called for the strict implementation of the Tobacco Control Act 2015 to curb the tobacco related deaths. UHCA’s Coordinator Baguma Richard called upon all stakeholders join hands in the fight against tobacco use and its effects.
Reports by the WHO indicate that tobacco use claims over 7 million people globally per year.
The Mourning Morning event gathered people from all sectors. UHCA is grateful to the leadership of Mbale town that is the Mayor, District Health Officer, District Police Commander, District Health Inspector, the Islamic University in Uganda Mbale campus community, the media and the public for making the town aware of the dangers around tobacco use.
